Friends thoughts about Meeting for Worship

If it is your first time at Quaker Meeting here is what you can expect:-

You will be greeted at the door, as are all attending. The greeter will show you to the meeting room and probably offer you a leaflet about your first meeting.

The room is simple with just a circle of chairs and a small table, usually decorated with seasonal flowers. You can choose to sit wherever you like. People will come in and take seats and sit quietly, there is not likely to be much conversation. Traditionally when the first person sits down the meeting has started.

The meeting is held in silence, though sometimes someone may feel moved to speak. Those who speak, which we Quakers call ministry, would normally stand if they are able to do so.

The end of the Meeting of Worship is denoted by two Quakers shaking hands.

We have coffee or Tea and social time after the meeting.

Here are some Friends (Quakers) thoughts about what the Meeting for Worship means to them
